Kindergarten News:  The students have been busy the first 2 weeks of school doing beginning reading and writing activities and many other fun jobs.  Last week we learned to spell the color red, we did some fun activities around the story “ The Enormous Watermelon”, we “guestimated” the number of licorice in a jar and completed our Shape Family book.  Be looking for this book to come home.  Your child also brought home their first Story Bit.  If you did not return the Ziploc bag and response page please return it tomorrow.  Keep the Story Bit in the Story Bit Box at home.  More will be coming home soon.

Morning Routine:  When you drop your child off each day, it is very important for you to give a reassuring hug and                                                       say your goodbyes as at the door.  The children need to then come in and do their morning routine by themselves.  You can give them a quick reminder, then let them take yesterdays folder out of their backpack and put it in my basket,  next take the  folder out of their cubby and put it in their backpack, last hang their backpack up.  I promise they will get the routine soon. They will be so proud of themselves and so will you!

Homework:  Homework folders will not be coming home until conference time in October.   I will be sending home some work pages for practice.  Return on Friday.

September Read Aloud:  Please take time reading with your child each night.  Record your reading on the Recording Sheet/Reading Log.  Try to read 20 books for the month of September.

September Skills Awards will be coming home this week if your child has mastered all the skills.

Sharing Bag:  The Sharing Bag began going home last week.  The students will take turns taking it home then bringing it back to school the next day with something to share. Follow the directions on the card attached to the bag.

ABC Club:  When your child masters all the letter names (upper and lower case)  they will earn an ABC Ribbon.  The students will also be able to earn a sound ribbon when they mastered all the letter sounds.  We practice all the letters and

Sounds in some way each day.  To show mastery your child will need to answer in 3 seconds and give the correct answer each time they are tested.  Some students will be bringing home their ABC Award this week.

All About Me:  Last week I introduced myself to the class using my All About Me board.  This week we will have our first student All About Me presentation board.  Alissa will be our first Student of the Week.  We are looking forward to learn more about our friend Alissa.   Amanda will be our next Student of the Week.

Cedarwood Carnival:  Our school carnival is Friday, October 22nd.  We will be need5 some parent helpers to work in our class booth.  I will be putting a sign up sheet outside our door for parent helpers.  Mrs. Lopez, Jeska’s mom has volunteered to do our Silent Auction basket.  We will be asking for voluntary donations for this basket.  A note will come home soon.  A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Lopez             .
