ACES Program

In early 2007, CUSD was awarded funding to operate after school programs at 7 of our elementary schools.  The district applied for funding for all elementary and intermediate sites; however grants were awarded to schools within the state based on the enrollment of students receiving free and reduced meals.  The funding for this program comes from a state voter approved initiative Prop 49 intended to provide students in grades k through 6 with literacy, academic enrichment and safe constructive opportunities from the time they are released from school until 6 pm.

Clovis, Fancher Creek, Miramonte, Nelson, Tarpey, Temperance Kutner and Weldon Elementary Schools began operating their ACES programs in February of 2007.

21st Century Programs

In June of 2008, CUSD was awarded funding to operate after school programs at 3 additional sites.  Two are elementary and 1 is an Intermediate school.  This funding comes from the Federal Government and offers the same opportunities for students

The program is administered in Clovis Unified by the Child Development Department.  Each school site operates independently with Principals and staff determining their “target population” or the group that they feel would most benefit from the program.

Participation in the program is on a scholarship basis and is limited.  It is considered to be a privilege and attendance is mandatory.

In its first few months of operation the programs are receiving very positives comments from students, parents and teachers.  Students are able to complete homework.          They are also able to experience lessons in such things as karate, art, dance, percussion,  and computers.  They enjoy field trips and demonstrations.
